Jesus is the fulfillment of Old Testament promises. For hundreds of years, people were preparing for their coming salvation in Jesus; yet many did not see Jesus even though they prophesied about him.

It’s hard for me to relate to the waiting that my ancestors of the faith experienced. Hebrews 11:13 says, “These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.”

In our culture, we rarely have to wait. With Amazon 2-day shipping and Starbucks mobile orders, we expect NOT to wait or long for things at all. I have to remind myself: I am not the center of God’s plan. I’m included, but not the main character!

So what does it look like to experience this longing and expectation of Advent? How do I prepare my heart for Christmas? ➡️ This week, let’s consider the unmet desires of our hearts and ask, “To what am I looking to fill those longings? How might I wait well for Christ to fill me in each of these areas?”
