What would we do without encouragement?

How many times has your day or mood turned around because of some encouragement that you’ve received. I know mine has. Just to know someone is thinking of you when you’re feeling lonely and alone is so encouraging.

We all have those times that we need a word of encouragement. I have found that when I am most in need of encouragement that If I make a call or talk to someone to encourage them, I am also encouraged.

I believe it’s the way God works. It helps me to get my eyes off myself and focus on someone else and their needs.

God knew this life wouldn’t be easy for any of us and even tells us in John 16:33. (NIV)

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Hebrews 3:13 (NIV)

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by sins deceitfulness.

So my challenge to us, especially me, is to pray and see who God would have you encourage today (and tomorrow and the next day). Sometimes small encouragements can have big effects on those who are struggling. It might mean a word of encouragement, a phone call, a walk together, an invitation for a meal, or just to meet for coffee.

It’s been harder this year with Covid but ask God for some creativity and who it is that he might have you encourage. You may not feel like it, but that’s when it might bring you the greatest encouragement as well. When we obey God‘s word it brings great rewards.
